Viewers will see again Giuseppe Verdi’s “Othello” performance in the Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theater in the 23rd theatrical season. The triumphal procession of this immortal work continues as an absolute masterpiece of world musical and theatrical art for more than 126 years. Shakespeare's story itself has existed for more than 400 years, but it remains relevant today.
There is not a single word, not a single sound, not a single moment that exists just like that. Everything reflects the tragedy that is happening in the minds and lives of the heroes. The elemental storm that opens the opera becomes a harbinger of a devastating disaster, treacherously sweeping Othello’s soul on its way.
Director Konstantin Balakin follows the classical line of the performance in general, although modern elements of the opera were added to the performance, which brightened it up: special effects in the hall will make viewers to become participants of the action. According to the chief director of the performance, Konstantin Balakin: “The Classics doesn’t tolerate any experiments”.
