Alexey Vladimirovich was born in Kostroma. In 2003, he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, the conducting and choral department (the class of Associate Professor A.V. Maly); in 2005, he finished assistantship majoring in “Conducting an Academic Chorus” at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (the class of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Professor L.A. Popova); in 2011 he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, majoring in “Conducting a Symphonic Orchestra” (the class of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Professor V.V. Chistyakov).

In 2002, he took the second prize at the III All-Russian Competition of Chorus Conductors (Salavat, the Republic of Bashkortostan).

In 2004 Alexey Vladimirovich founded the Academic Chamber Chorus and became its artistic director and chief conductor. In 2007, the chamber chorus joined the staff of the State Philharmonic of the Kostroma Region. Under his leadership, the chorus twice took the 1st Prize of the international competitions “Credo 2013” (Tallinn, Estonia) and “Hajnówka 2013” (Bialystok, Poland) and over the years of work established itself as a high-skilled team. Well-known conductors and soloists of Moscow and St. Petersburg opera houses repeatedly performed with the chorus. During two seasons, the orchestra and the chorus took part in Artyom Vargaftik's author's project “The Scores Do Not Burn”.

In Kostroma, in cooperation with the Novaya Opera Theater, the operas Boris Godunov and Khovanshchina by M. Mussorsky, Prince Igor by A. Borodin, Dido and Aeneas by G. Purcell, and The Elixir of Love by G. Donizetti were staged.

The repertoire of the chorus includes cantata and oratorio works by Tchaikovsky, Taneyev, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini and others.

Alexey Melkov is a laureate of the M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov Regional Music Award; he holds the title of the Honored Artist of the Kostroma Region. The activities of A. Melkov were marked by the gratitude of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation; he was handed gratitude and certificates of honor of the Kostroma region.
