Italian masterpiece on our stage

On May 20 and 21, the theatre chief stage director Konstantin Balakin and chief artist Elena Vershina will present their concept of the new performance "Tosca" by G. Puccini.

In Astrakhan the opera “Tosca” was staged twice in the Musical Theatre. To date, Tosca is one of the most popular opera productions in the best world theatres. Giacomo Puccini as an Italian took the plot of "Tosca"  very close to heart.

Interesting Facts:

- Montserrat Caballe has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the only singer who performs the last four notes of the Vissi d'Arte prayer in one breath.

- Ramon Vinay (Chilean opera singer) became famous for starting his career as a tenor, and finishing it as a bass. In the opera Tosca he performed the roles of Cavaradossi and Scarpia.

- The premiere of the opera was remembered by the audience for a long time, and the reason for this was not the soloists singing, the beauty of music and the luxury of the production. When the hall was already packed, the police suddenly burst into it. Someone said that there was a bomb in the room, and the police had to turn everything upside down. Hardly had the searches ended, the conductor tried to start the play, but he could not do it - the orchestra stopped because of shouts in the hall. Their reason was a very curious Roman theatrical tradition - the audience was always late for performances, and therefore those who did not arrive in time, demanded to start again.

- Because of the specific nature of the plot, "Tosca" is often used in various works related to the work of special services and detectives. Among the most famous films where this work is mentioned or the music from it sounds - "Deja vu" (1989, directed by Yu. Machulsky), "Surrogates" (2009, J. Mostow), "the Pink Doll" (1997, B Olshvang), “Stalingrad” (2013, F. Bondarchuk), "22. Bullets. Immortal" (2010, R. Berry), "Method" (2015, Y. Bykov).

According to the idea of ​​the directors, spectators will watch the new performance in one breath, like a documentary.  Spectators will be transferred in those days when the main characters - the artist Mario Cavaradossi and the opera singer Floria Tosca have become victims of the period of despotism, tortures, prisons, executions. Being far from political struggle, they have been involved in it.
