In 1869, the choreographer Marius Petipa invited Ludwig Minkus to write music for the ballet "Don Quixote", the scenario of which he developed himself.
"Don Quixote" is one of the best creations of Petipa. The choreographer traveled a lot around the cities of Spain and managed to embody all the richness and uniqueness of its folklore on the stage. Experienced conductor Ludwig Minkus was an excellent connoisseur of ballet craft, he was recognized as a ballet composer. His sparkling music, like champagne, delighted in hearing and forced to dance. In the ballet, there are a lot of Spanish and Gypsy dances, the authentic names of which are chic, moraine and zingara.
145 years have passed since the first production of the work by L. Minkus and M. Petipa. Despite its considerable age, the ballet "Don Quixote" remains not only a pearl of the classical repertoire, but also a favorite performance of spectators, artists and musicians. Choreographer Konstantin Uralsky is a supporter of careful attitude to the classical heritage. But he is convinced that the classical works are not an archival exhibit, but a living organism.
"Don Quixote" at the stage of the Astrakhan opera and ballet theatre is a ballet-holiday, harmoniously combining elegant cheerful music, complicated choreographic technique, colorful scenery, bright costumes and lighting effects.
The choreography by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky was resumed in a new choreographic version by Konstantin Uralsky.
The ballet "Don Quixote" is waiting for its audience on May 14 at 18.00
