Fatherland Defender Day is primarily a military man holiday. But at the same time it is a holiday of each man who is ready to protect with arms his beloved ones, his families and homeland at any moment.
23 February the Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre invites its spectators to the lyric-epic opera "Prince Igor", on the storyline basis of the Old Russian work "The Lay."
In "Prince Igor" everything is a surprise. Firstly, of course, the brilliant music of Alexander Borodin. Secondly, the fact that the opera was composed by a person, whose professional occupation was not music but chemistry. One of the best Russian operas had been written over long eighteen years, but was never completed. The opera was completed by composer’s friends Alexander Glazunov and Rimsky-Korsakov. The composition was penetrated with Russian people patriotic idea.The main characters showed the essence of the Russian soul, its honour, courage, loyalty and morality. No wonder this opera is so popular in Russia: the native land and its defenders are honoured, distress and difficulty are treated with pain.
The action scale in Astrakhan performance of "Prince Igor" will surprise the viewers. The directors has managed to recreate historical events of the XII century, to maintain respect for the music of Borodin. Usage of sophisticated video content throughout the entire performance of "Prince Igor" on the big stage is also a special feature of the production. The whole Astrakhan company (singers, dancers, choir, ensemble mimic) is involved in the majestic and spectacular performance. No one Russian opera art lover will remain indifferent to the opera "Prince Igor".
