The Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater has won a grant from the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
In the last few years, people have started to forget the centuries-old national traditions, and the younger generation has been losing interest in the historical past. Taking into account the great significance of the reforms of Peter I for the history of Russia and due to the 350th anniversary of his birth in 2022, the Astrakhan Theater starts working on staging the ballet “The Bronze Horseman” by Reinhold Glière. This composition is considered an inexhaustible source from which the vital knowledge can be drawn. It is a subtle interlacing of history and modern age, the opposition of two forces: the state and the common man. Peter I is a symbol of the urgent social need for change, that ought to be essential, quick and efficient.
What can “The Bronze Horseman” narrate us through the centuries? The team of directors will try to answer this question. The Conductor Director Valery Voronin, the Choreography Director, the People's Artist of the Russian Federation Yury Klevtsov and others will be working on the production.
