Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theatre invites you to M. Choufleuri restera chez lui le...
A vivid, witty, comic opetta, filled with music and color, takes the audience into an atmosphere of playful and frivolous fun. The plot centers on exciting adventures that arise during a luxurious dinner party, where the lives of the eccentric characters intertwine.
The idea for this little operetta (sometimes titled A Dinner Party with Italians) was suggested to Offenbach by one of its librettists, the Duc de Morny, half-brother of Emperor Napoleon III. The operetta was first presented in Paris, with great success, in 1861 for a select high-ranking audience.
The most significant and complex scene of the operetta is the performance of the imaginary “Italians”. Offenbach, the founder of operetta, wrote music in the bel canto style, with numerous coloraturas in high tessitura, which requires a certain level of skill from real opera singers. Not every artist can cope with a complex opera episode, where the entire comedy of the situation should be conveyed; and in the performance this musical fragment is often simplified of to suit their vocal capabilities, perhaps that is the reason why this small operetta is rarely staged in theaters.
According to the director Vasily Selyukov, despite the complex coloratura and difficult musical material, the troupe of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater can make this production, which speaks of the professional training of the theater soloists.
The production team moved the action from 1833, where according to the authors of the libretto this story took place, to the 1960s, to France, to a dinner party in the provincial town of Lyon, which will raise the authority of the main character ... What is Choufleuri ready to do not to lose face in front of the high-ranking guests? Will that same Italian trio appear at the celebration? How do passion, love and intrigue develop to the sounds of brilliant music? You will find answers to these and many other questions at the premiere of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater.
Dine with the Italians on November 23 and 24 at 16:00 in the Small Hall of the Opera and Ballet Theater, the dinner party promises to give the audience a lot of positive emotions and unforgettable impressions!
