Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater is staging a romantic story about brave pirates
On November 7, 2024, a meeting of the artistic council was held at the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater, dedicated to the upcoming premiere of the ballet Le Corsaire edited by the chief ballet master of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater, the People's Artist of Russia, the Choreography Director Yuri Klevtsov. Emphasizing the uniqueness of the upcoming premiere, Yuri Viktorovich told the artistic council about the changes made to the libretto and adjustments to the choreography, which will allow the audience to see a new interpretation of the classical work, which is not performed in any theater.
The ballet Le Corsaire is a luxurious, colorful, old classical ballet. The first performance of the ballet took place on January 23, 1856 at the Paris Opera. Since then, the ballet has undergone several changes; although every time it was based on the original production by Mazilier, Perrot and Petipa. The music was written by the French composer Adolphe Adam, the founder of romantic ballet, whose score was later supplemented with bright numbers by other composers.
"We endeavored to preserve the general concept, but at the same time we took a slightly different path, it was our own way, as we tried to give the performance a modern look, making it dynamic, consisting of two acts and four scenes. We will have a completely new scene, which has never been seen anywhere before - it is a pirate island and there will be a new character and new music. There will be installations, video projections, as well as many modern elements. The libretto will be slightly changed, while the main classical heritage will be preserved. Thus, we will show a new interpretation, a completely new performance, which will be only with us!"

The choreographer of the performance is the People's Artist of Russia Yuri Klevtsov, the production designer is Dmitry Cherbadzhi.
