Music that unites epochs has been performed at the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater: Masterpieces by Mozart and Shostakovich

There are works in art whose popularity is created by the public, sometimes despite the opinionsof professionals. But there are also works that have become famous only among professionals, contrary to the views of listeners. The program of the symphony concert "The Fate of the World and Humanity" included the genuinely classical works that have remained favorites for the both sides for centuries.

Disputes about the significance and value of Symphony No. 10 by D. Shostakovich started when it was first performed. They continue and will continue, since Symphony No. 10 is one of the main, defining symphonies in his creative work.

The first part of the symphony is the product of a dark beginning: a slow boiling of tension. It is the birth of tragic music from the spirit of contradictions. There’s a painful expectation of thedenouement that does not exist and cannot exist. The orchestra begins with a half-word, a half-sound and dies down as if at dawn, closing its eyes, the music falls silent along with consciousness.

The second part gallops off and rushes somewhere, businesslike, energetic, instantly flaring up and burning out, but the third part enters quietly, on tiptoe. The third part is a self-portrait (here, in this part, Shostakovich encrypted his own name). Here, on the edge of the forest, he hears a military call - a sign of human presence, from which the soul, tired of loneliness, begins to melt and warm up. In the fourth part, the arrival of spring is felt. A completely humanistic dance, without the wink and strain typical of Shostakovich.

Mozart's Requiem is deeply humane, the chorus of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater together with the A. Tsebekova State Chorus of the Republic of Kalmykia, the soloists A. Radugina, K. Kirilina, D. Sharmanov and I. Abramov and the symphonic orchestra under the baton of Valery Voronin skillfully combined heartfelt lyricism and drama. The suffering of man, his despair and hope, his pain and torment - this is the main content of Mozart's Requiem. And in this, his last creation, Mozart, as in all his work, remains a great artist-realist and humanist. 

The compositions performed in the concert program are very difficult in terms of performance, both for the conductor and for the chorus. They require impeccable mastery of manual techniquefrom the conductor, and mastery of vocals and vocal-choral technique in general from the performers.

The masterpieces of two geniuses, more than two centuries after they were created, continue to excite the hearts of musicians and music lovers all over the world.
