Don Quixote

The choreography by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky was resumed in a new choreographic version by Konstantin Uralsky. The performance was prepared by the conductor Valery Voronin, the artist Maria Volskaya and the light designer Elena Kopunova. This close-knit creative team had already performed several ballet productions, which received recognition from Astrakhan theatre-goers.

"Don Quixote" is a ballet-holiday, harmoniously combining elegant cheerful music, complicated choreographic technique, colorful scenery, bright costumes and lighting effects. The ballet "Don Quixote" is marked by a variety of dances. There are not only classical dances, but many character dances too: Spanish, Gypsy, bolero, etc., in the performance. The famous ballet with its Spanish flavor is the highest achievement of the Russian dance school. Great acting roles are not  forgotten  in the ballet: spectators will see Don Quixote and merry Sancho Panza.

145 years have passed since the first production of the work by L. Minkus and M. Petipa. Despite its considerable age, the ballet "Don Quixote" remains not only a pearl of the classical repertoire, but also a favorite performance of spectators, artists and musicians. Choreographer Konstantin Uralsky is a supporter of careful attitude to the classical heritage. But he is convinced that the classical works are not an archival exhibit, but a living organism.

In different years the leading parties in this performance were brilliantly performed by the stars of the national choreographic art: Maya Plisetskaya, Ekaterina Maksimova, Raisa Struchkova, Svetlana Semenyaka, Nikolai Fadeyechev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Mikhail Lavrovsky and others. The young artists of the ballet company: Alexander Zverev, Maria Stets, Natalia Korobeinikova, Anna Pigalkina, Daniil Sokolov, Rudolf Dudoladov are glad to perform these parties on the Astrakhan stage.

A group of wonderful ballet tutors: Maxim Victorovich Vasiliev, Julia Rudolfovna Vasilieva, Dmitry Eduardovich Kreisman and Olga Andreevna Pavlova prepare the ballet together with Konstantin Uralsky.  Associate professor of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography Svetlana Anatolyevna Ivanova, a specialist in the character dance, formerly the soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet has been invited especially for the preparation of the ballet "Don Quixote". She often appeared in the ballet “Don Quixote” on the most famous stage of our country.
