In 2011 when it was agreed about assignment of a new status to the Astrakhan musical theater, it became necessary to form a professional ballet company of academic genre.
Konstantin Uralskiy, a famous choreographer, an honored artist of Russia, a laureate of the RF Governmental state prize, was invited to our town by government of the Astrakhan region for creation of a new ballet company.
Intensive activities have begun on creation of a ballet company. Mr. Uralsky relied on young graduates of the leading ballet schools of the country. Talented graduates of leading choreographic schools of the country were invited to Astrakhan: from Moscow Academy of Choreography, St. Petersburg Vaganova Ballet Academy, Choreographic Colleges of Novosibirsk, Kazan, Ufa and Perm.
“Swan Lake”, - the first performance of a new ballet company in choreographic production of K.Uralsky was held in December 2012. Leading theatre and choreography men, famous dancers and ballet critics arrived to the premiere. And this didn’t happen by accident as a birth of a new ballet theatre is a highly important and considerably rare event in our country.
The first performance of the new ballet company went over with a bang and showed a significant potential of the ballet company and a big love of Astrakhan audience to ballet art. “The Nutcracker”, “Waltz of white orchids”, “Romeo and Juliet” came after “The Swan Lake”.
Currently there are 12 items in the ballet company repertoire, including classical art works, modern and even experimental performances such as “Piaf. I regret nothing” where dance and vocal arts are combined into one another. Ballet performances attract permanent interest of the audience; ballet critics and dance masters became frequent guests of the theatre.
The last work of the ballet company, -“Andrei Rublev”, a world premiere of authorial ballet by Konstantin Uralsky, - became a significant event not only in the Astrakhan theatre life but also became one of the remarkable event in the Russian ballet theatre culture.
Konstantin Uralsky, a head of the ballet company, lays special emphasis on scrupulous choice of artists. His dream to form a young ballet company of single aesthetic style from the ballet schools graduates delivered its benefits. Currently the Astrakhan theatre ballet company is one of the most developing ballet companies in the country in spite of its youth, and it’s no coincidence that it gained reputation among our country’s ballet companies as well as abroad. The names of the principal dancers are known not only among Astrakhan audience: Maria Stets, Anastasia Turchina, Artem Pugachev, Daniil Socolov, Maksim Melnikov, Anton Pestehin… Principal dancers of the ballet company take part and win awards in international ballet competitions. Artem Pugachev gained awards in four international competitions.
From 2013 the Ballet company goes on tour on regular basis. The theatre went on tour to Great Britain (2013, 2015, 2016) and to Germany (2014). Ballets “Swan Lake”, “Nutcracker”, “Don Quxote”, “Romeo and Juliet”, ‘Sleeping Beauty” etc. were showed to audience and went over with a bang. Principal dancers of the ballet company took part in gala concerts in different Russian towns on more than one occasion and on a big concert in Paris they successfully showed some extracts from ballet “Piaf.Je ne regrette rien” to French audience.
In 2017 the ballet company will go on tour to Great Britain already for the fourth time and in 2018 it will show its performances to Chinese audience.
