The opera Prince Igor was first presented to the Astrakhan public exactly 10 years ago on the Cathedral Square of the Kremlin. The huge success and relevance of historical and patriotic epic determined the fact that this musical production has been staged in the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater for so many years. By the way, it took the famous Russian composer and chemist Alexander Borodin almost eighteen years to write his major composition - the opera based on the plot of the ancient Russian work The Tale of Igor’s Campaign!
The opera touches upon important issues of military honor, the suffering of people involved in the war, Russian revolt, treachery and betrayal, love and devotion to the Motherland, courageous feats to the glory of Russia. The story about the historical events of the time when the Russian statehood was starting is still relevant today. Steadfastness in the face of the enemy, striving for unity, faith and faithfulness - all these strengthened and defended the country at decisive moments in history.
On February 23, the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, the laureate of International Opera Competitions, the People's Artist of the Republic of North Ossetia - Alania Mikhail Kolelishvili will perform the role of Prince Igor in the production of the opera of the same name of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater.
The Astrakhan spectators had a chance to appreciate his powerful bass when he performed the role of Ivan Susanin in the opera of the same name. Six months ago that premiere became the central event of the International Classical Music Festival “Caspian Seasons-2023” in Astrakhan.
Mikhail Kolelishvili performs leading roles in more than forty productions of the Mariinsky Theater. Despite being busy and his tight tour schedule, the soloist gladly accepted the offer of the artistic director of the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater Valery Voronin.
This means that on this holiday, on the Astrakhan theater stage, an anthem will sound brightly and loudly in honor of the best sons of our homeland, their immortal feat in the name of the strong and invincible Russia!
