The Golden Mask 2017 Prize Laureates Ceremony

The most important event of the festival - summing up the results and the “Golden Mask’ Award Ceremony - has come close. The XXIII ceremony of presenting the National Theatre Prize the "Golden Mask" will take place today on April 19 at the Musical Theatre named after K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. The "Culture" TV channel will broadcast the “Golden Mask” Award Ceremony on April 23 at 23.30. The presenters are Anya Chipovskaya and Sergey Epishev.

The Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theatre becomes the nominee for the most prestigious Russian theatre prize for the fourth time, starting in 2010. Before that, the performances "Madam Butterfly", "Queen of Spades", "Eugene Onegin" were nominated.

This time, the festival's expert council celebrated the play "The Damnation of Faust". We remind our viewers that the Astrakhan Theatre was the first one in Russia, which performed a stage version of this dramatic legend by Hector Berlioz.

The National Theatre Award the "Golden Mask" was established in 1993 by the Union of Theatre Workers of Russia as a professional award for the best works of the season in all theatrical arts (drama, opera, ballet, modern dance, operetta / musical, puppet theatre). The first ceremony of awarding the laureates took place in 1995. Since then, the expert councils, which include the most respected theatre critics, have been selecting the most significant performances from Russian cities to participate in the “Golden Mask” festival.
