"At the End of the Great Epoch"

Musical masterpieces will be performed by the leading soloist, Laureate of the international competition of Elena Razgulyaeva and the symphony orchestra under maestro Valery Voronin.

The program of this symphony concert units the works of the same time. With the exception of Wagner, all works are dated to the beginning of the twentieth century, they were written before the outbreak of the First World War.

And this time in Europe was special. For the first time in history, there had been no wars in Europe for more than half a century. Science, education, industry were developing rapidly, the quality of life was noticeably improving. People believed that they were entering the age of reason, that all they had experienced and comprehended in the past centuries guaranteed them a reasonable historical development in the future.

Professional musical creativity settled in the history of art much later than  painting and poetry, but the great way was passed  for two centuries. That was a period when Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms were born as well as the composers of this concert program: Wagner, Richard Strauss, Berg, Mahler and Rachmaninoff in spite of their incredible stylistic diversity and principled dissimilarity.

The best works will be performed:

Alban Berg's “Seven early songs” are almost the only Berg's junior songs published in his lifetime. He selected them from a vast vocal heritage, which he did not consider possible to make public. A wide range of influences is concentrated here - from Schumann to Wagner, from Brahms to Debussy - they are illuminated by the light of the inexpressible charm of youth, which assimilates the new language of music  with the almost Mozartian ease.

Gustav Mahler Adagio from Symphony No. 5. This work has an unusual structure: it actually consists of five parts, united by the author into three large sections, it is one of the most performed works by Mahler.

Richard Wagner "The Entry and Death of Isolde". This music, permeated with the longing of love and death, flows in a continuous stream without stops, and it seems endless.

Symphony No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff  and two songs by Richard Strauss will also be performed.

There are large-scale lyrical and heroic images, and the exquisite beauty of harmonic constructions, and subtle, fragile musical tunes in pre-war time and in the concert program. Music approached a certain limit of its complexity. But the general idea of the composer craft principles still united  new compositions with the previous musical epoch.

The outbreak of war gave rise to doubt in the power of the human mind, in the inviolability of moral and moral values, in the stability and reason of historical development. And composers began to search new creative forms, new sounds, images and texts. But it was later.

The symphony program "At the End of the Great Epoch" presents musical masterpieces, written in period when faith in strength of the reasonable had not been lost yet.
